Essential Oils
We use essential oils for everything from treating minor ailments to cleaning the bathroom. There are oils in every room of our home. If you are someone I know IRL, you've probably been gifted essential oil in some form. This is simply because I think they are the best thing since sliced bread. Wait, maybe even before sliced bread?
It all began when I started making connections between the cleaning sprays, candles, self-care products, and junk food I loved so much and several "unexplained" and recurrent symptoms.
In my quest to feel good I tried many home remedies and natural alternatives. I kept reading about essential oils but wasn't convinced they would help at first.
Then a sweet friend told me essential oils resolved her tummy troubles and my interest was piqued. I started looking at the research and was skeptical of whether what I was reading could possibly be true. As a science girlie, I poured over peer-reviewed studies and what I found astonished me.
In early 2015, I ordered my first box of oils.
What’s an essential oil?
Essential oils are naturally occurring aromatic compounds found in plants.
In nature, essential oils:

Aromatic: When an essential oil is inhaled it is absorbed by smell receptors, which have a direct link to the limbic system by way of the olfactory nerve.
Topical: Essential oils have low molecular weights and are lipid soluble so they easily penetrate the skin.
Internal: Certain essential oils have a rich culinary history and can be used in foods - but keep in mind - only a small percentage of EOs on the market are safe for internal use.
